Made with potatoes, starch, vegetable oil and sea salt, these homemade chips can be oven-baked or deep-fried. Serve them as a side dish with steak, burgers or currywurst.
STEP BY STEP
Leaving the skins on, cut the potatoes into roughly even-sized batons. Thinner chips become crispier, while thicker ones stay moist inside.
Fill a large bowl with water and wash the potato batons thoroughly to rinse off the starch. Drain in a colander.
Spread the potato batons on a baking tray and toss in the starch. This helps make the chips crispier.
Oven method: Bake the potato batons at 200 °C for approximately 30 minutes. Turn once halfway through so they cook evenly.
Deep-frying method: Heat the vegetable oil in a pot and fry the potato batons at 140 °C for approximately 5 minutes. Lift them out with a ladle, then fry again at 180 °C for one minute.
Sprinkle the chips with sea salt and serve.
